ashok deshpande works as a research chemist for the national oceanic and atmospheric administration. his interest in classical music developed and flourished from attending concerts and taking primary music lessons. the focus of the ‘geet bandish’ program is to demonstrate that every musical melody we like and hum can be deconvoluted into an underlying set of notes that are associated with a defined raag structure. the program includes discussion on raga grammer, classical bandishes or instrumental music, and semi-classical songs. the first program of ’geet Bandish’ was broadcast in may 2012 with the encouragement and well wishes of pandita dr. prabha atre, acharya pandit gokulotstav maharaj, pandit jasraj, pandit vikas kashalkar, pandit ramakant gundecha, pandit umakant gundecha, pandita veena sahasrabuddhe, pandita ashwini bhide-deshpande, pandit arun bhaduri, pandita meeta pandit, pandit haresh bakshi, and pandit sujan rane.
